Everyone is entitled to use a Public Right of Way. Rarely are they altered, obstructed or closed. In 1984 a group of Calstock residents concerned for the future and condition of long established Public Rights of Way branching out from this historic riverside village, formed the Calstock Footpath Society with the clear objective of monitoring and caring for traditional paths used by the local community and visitors to the Tamar Valley.
Today the Society has a healthy and active membership, its obligation expanded to include villages and hamlets within the wider parish. The Society works alongside the Parish Council to ensure that the network is checked at least three times a year to make certain that use is not denied.
As part of its extended role the Society organises monthly walks both within and outside Calstock Parish. Many of the walks have a general interest or historic content and are considered to be within the capability of members and non-members
